Lowell Liebermann
Lowell Liebermann is one of the most frequently performed and recorded living American composers. He is the recipient of many awards and honors, most recently the inaugural Virgil Thomson Vocal Award, given jointly by the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the Virgil Thomson Foundation, and the CAG Virtuoso Award given by Concert Artists Guild. He is Head of the Composition Department at Mannes School of Music at the New School in New York City, where he was founding Director of MACE (Mannes American Composers Ensemble) a large ensemble dedicated to performing works by living American Composers.
Liebermann performs frequently as pianist and conductor. He can be heard conducting his Piano Concertos with Stephen Hough and the BBC Scottish Orchestra on Hyperion, for which he received a Grammy Nomination for Best Classical Contemporary Composition, and his Concertos for Flutewith James Galway on RCA Red Seal. Over 90 recordings of Liebermann's music are available on Virgin Classics, New World Records, Albany, Dorian, RCA, Denon, Naxos, Hungaraton and many other labels.
